Q. Are you a sister of Joan Dingley formerly Courson
A. I am
Q. Where have you lived
A. _ _ _ in Lewiston & brought up in Brunswick Me
Q. Was your sister Joan ever married
A. She was married in July - I dont know the year. _ _ _ five years before I was & I was married in 1860. She was married in Brunswick by Alfred J. Stone. I was present at the marriage. she married then John Pollis. The first we ever saw of him he had a show in Lisbon & there got acquainted with my sister. we than lived in Lisbon for a little while - I think it was about 3 months before they were married, He was an Indian.
Q. How old was Pollis them
A. I think about 25 years
Q. Describe his appearance and looks
A. He was tall, straight as a candle. he was round framed. hair was black rolled under, his eyes I called black.
Q. Did he have any scars or marks about him
A. His skin was buttoned[??] & he had five dots of indian ink on his hand & I am not sure but a letter of his name
Q. When did he live with her
A. At Brunswick about a month. She couldn't live with him. he wanted her to go to Old Town to his house & she wouldn't go.
Q. Did he live with her after
A. He never did, but was there twice to see the little girl after she was born
Q. Is this girl alive
A. No. she died June 1883. Mary Isabelle - named her for __ mother
Q. Did they have any other children
A. No
Q. Did you see him at any other times
A. I did not
Q. Do you know where he lived
A. I don't, but was strolling about I guess
Q. Where did your sister live just after she married
A. She lived in Brunswick until she married Dingley except she was up working in a Mill up here a few times for a month or so.
Q. Did you ever hear of his enlisting
A. I did several times. Geo. Eaton of Brunswick told me he was shot & fell by his side
Q. Then you never had any knowledge of Pollis whereabouts except while at Brunswick
A. No
Q. Did John Pollis have any brothers of sisters
A. Joseph & Peter brothers Annis & Margaret. all dead but Joseph. don't know where he is.
Q. Did your sister marry again
A. Yes Wm McIntosh. The year after the war closed
Q. How long did she live with him
A. Never lived with him _ __ he came & went.
Q. Has she married again
A. Yes, John A. Dingley
Q. Did Pollis have a scar on his face
A. I can't remember
Q. Did you ever hear of his (Pollis) having any other wife at any time
A. I never did
Q. Do you know what regt he enlisted in
A. No I dont
Q. Did you hear that he enlisted at the time he enlisted
A. Yes
Q. Did anybody make an application for a pension
A. Yes. his daughter Mary Isabelle Pollis applied A. W. Stone who married her mother to Pollis & he would not do anything about it. Said another woman was drawing Pension for him.
Q. Do you know of any one that knows that this man was same Pollis.
A. I do not
Q. Did anyone go to see Elizabeth Pollis about the pension.
A. Yes, Mary went & faught with this woman about it & she wouldn't give it up
