Wabanaki Rattle
Origins & Age Unknown
This wonderful treasure was found on display at the Lovell Historical Society.
The rattle is slightly over a foot long. The cylinder and upper end of the handle are covered with white, red, blue, and green seed beads. Ribbons of green, red, and yellow? are attached to both ends and wrapped around the lower portion of the wood handle. Three tassels of human hair wrapped with dyed porcupine quills are attached at the upper end. A loop at the upper end is also wrapped with dyed porcupine quills. The brilliance of the orange and red colors of this quill wrapped loop are amazing.

We wish to thank the Lovell Historical Society of Lovell, Maine for preserving this beautiful artifact and allowing us to photograph it to share with others.
