Mrs. Rosanna Johnson

In a runaway accident at Luzerne Saturday morning, caused by an automobile, Mrs. Rosanna Johnson, wife of George Johnson, an Indian basket maker, residing at Lake George, was thrown from a carriage and instantly killed.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson drove to Luzerne early Saturday morning to peddle baskets. They stopped before the residence of Dr. J.J. Montgomery, on Lake Avenue, and Mr. Johnson, turning the lines over to his wife, went about his business. Following her usual custom, Mrs. Johnson drove on a short distance and stopped to wait for her husband.

At this moment, a large automobile truck owned by Knight's Brewery of Glen Falls, and driven by Napoleon Delcour, dashed by and frightened the horse. The animal became unmanageable and despite the strenuous efforts of Mrs. Johnson, dashed down the street, finally running into a telegraph pole. The woman was thrown from the wagon and struck her head on the hard ground, fracturing her skull. Death was instantaneous.

Mrs. Johnson was 60 years old and had been a resident of Lake George for many years. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters and a son, Miss Meredith Johnson and Mrs. Mary Werner of Lake George, and Arthur Johnson of Glen Falls. Two brothers and three sisters also survive.
