Case Study - Style
- [] are used to indicate the source of the information (all UPPERCASE) and immediately follow such information.
- [] are also used for researchers person comments, [all comments will end with the initials of the person making the comment, such as -NL]
- / between words or names generally indicates options (and/or type situations)
- <> surround surnames that assumed or expected to be correct, but never actually found in documentation as used by the person
- all names have standized spellings, except in direct quotes or word for word transcriptions
- in citing sources, the following codes are used
- [OSD-___] Original Source Document - interpreted by Ne-Do-Ba
- [TVR-___] Transcribed Vital Records - available to Ne-Do-Ba
- [OFT-___] Oral Family Tradition - communicated to Ne-Do-Ba by a living descendant
- [UNK-___] All other information of a secondary nature, for which the original source is unknown or unclear
- Dates are estimated for birth and marriage when unknown - using the following rules
- min. age 15 for marriage or birth of a child - stated as b.bef
- marriage is assumed between parents of a child unless otherwise stated and dated as before the birth year of first known child
- parents age 30 at birth of grandchild or marriage of child
- min age 14 for women and 15 men included as an adult in any document or list or mentioned by name (children are not often referred to by name in documents)
- min age 20 for any male mentioned as a leader, chief, head man, or with military title, or signing a document - definitely room for error here, but not very likely a teenager would rise to such a position and very likely the person is much older than 20
- min age of 40 for anyone referred to on a specific date as "old" - again a lot of room for error here but this should be a reasonable min. age.
- death dates are not established unless we have some source of information to work with. However, for research we must often try to establish a period of time for the known life, so the last year we have a record for will sometimes be used, followed by a plus (+) sign
