Franklin Peal
7th Maine Infantry - Company K

Franklin Peal (or more properly, Franklin Pierre) was born about 1842 in Maine and died at Leeds, Maine either in December of 1862 or April of 1863. His parents were Newell & Elizabeth (Thompson) Peal. His father died about 1850 and his mother remarried early in 1860 to Soloman Libby of Leeds ME. In the 1860 census we find Elizabeth Peal living in the home of Soloman Libby at Leeds where she is referred to as a domestic servant. Franklin is a farm laborer and also living with Solomon Libby.

Neighbors of the Libby household in Leeds had nothing but praise for Frank. He is described by them in pension documents as "a sober, temperate man", "a smart good and industrious young man", and "a temperate, steady young man".

Franklin enlisted in Co. K of the 7th Maine Infantry on 30-Apr-1861 and was discharged due to disability on 26-Sep-1861. His regiment never saw action during his enlistment. His military pension file shows he was discharged due to TB which would have been a pre-existing condition.
