Lewiston Aspirations Partnership
The Lewiston Aspirations partnership was formed in the spring of 1994. Initiated by L. L. Bean, a cross-section of community members came together with the purpose of raising the aspirations of Lewiston's youth.
Since formation the partnership has conducted a community-wide needs assessment, has administered the National Center for Student Aspirations Survey to Lewiston's sixth and eighth graders, and has several actively engaged subcommittees to address identified needs in the community. Several projects have been funded through the support of L.L. Bean Inc. The projects are effectively addressing issues that have been identified as having impact on the aspirations of Lewiston's youth.
The Lewiston Aspirations Partnership's subcommittees include: The Family Self-Esteem group which is currently helping to increase the number of mentors in Lewiston's schools. The BookReach subcommittee focuses on the reading needs of pre-kindergarten children. The Financial Aid subcommittee has created easy-to-read financial information literature for the nontraditional post-secondary student population.
The Lewiston Aspirations partnership will continue to work toward its goals to:
