Recreation on the
Androscoggin River
Map 14

Access point descriptions refer to river right and river left as viewed facing downstream. Only public sites or bridges are included in this list. In some areas there are other commonly used access sites on the river. Ask locally and get permission before using. Some dams have portage trails and access both upstream and downstream of the dam. Some dams do not have a practicable route around, have a unusually long carry, or do not have access. Those with reasonable access and carry routes are marked PORTAGE.

B 12. Durham Boat Launch
A public boat ramp off of Rt. 136 on west side of river (river right).

B 13. Durham Riverside Park
A town park off of Rt. 136 on west side of river (river right), across the street from Durham store.
Includes picnic tables.

B 14. Sabattus River Boat Launch
On the east side of river (river left), on east side of Rt. 196 upstream of Lisbon Falls. Access is actually onto the Sabattus River, then paddle 30 yards to the main river.

B 15. Lisbon Falls River Access
On the east side of river, (river left) off of Rt. 196, downstream of Lisbon Falls after the mill. Sign on 196, calling it the Pejepscot Boat Access.

Auburn-Lisbon Falls Quickwater-Class 2
A gem of a section, with an urban start quickly giving way to rural, quiet paddling.
A set of rapids at the beginning require attention, and can have medium-large waves when the river is high. Use caution. Take out at Sabattus River Boat Launch, or at Worumbo Mill portage. Paddlers wishing to continue downstream must transport boats to Pejepscot River Access.

Lisbon Falls-Brunswick Quickwater
A great paddle, with one portage in the middle. The river widens out and the country is rolling and rural.
