Recreation on the
Androscoggin River
Map 13

Access point descriptions refer to river right and river left as viewed facing downstream. Only public sites or bridges are included in this list. In some areas there are other commonly used access sites on the river. Ask locally and get permission before using. Some dams have portage trails and access both upstream and downstream of the dam. Some dams do not have a practicable route around, have a unusually long carry, or do not have access. Those with reasonable access and carry routes are marked PORTAGE.

B 9. North Auburn Boat Launch
On west side of river (river right), off of North River Rd. Adjacent to Higgens Sport Center, behind a Wendy's Resturaunt. Provides access to the stretch of river in between Deer Rips Dam and Great Falls.

B 10. Auburn Boat Launch
On west side of river (river right). A riverside park with limited public parking. Just downstream of Longley bridge, off of Main St. in Auburn, adjacent to plaza.

Lewiston/Auburn Flatwater
The riverside perspective on Maine's second biggest urban area is an interesting one. For a pleasant out and back paddle, put in at the north Auburn access point and paddle upstream, around Boxer Island and back. Many competitive canoe racers train in this section.

Auburn-Lisbon Falls Quickwater-Class 2
A gem of a section, with an urban start quickly giving way to rural, quiet paddling.
A set of rapids at the beginning require attention, and can have medium-large waves when the river is high. Use caution. Take out at Sabattus River Boat Launch, or at Worumbo Mill portage. Paddlers wishing to continue downstream must transport boats to Pejepscot River Access.
